Cutting tools that have been successfully implemented in the medical industry will be shown at MedTec by ITC of Tamworth. At the UK’s showpiece event for the medical industry held at the Birmingham NEC from 25th to 26th March, the cutting tool specialist will exhibit a number of new products that will include the ITC 4091, 4071, 2071 and 2112 Cyber Series as well as the Hanita 5777 SuperVariMill from Stand 2046.
The 4091 Cyber Series of 4flute roughing end mills have been introduced to the medical industry with remarkable success. The centre cutting solid carbide cutter with ‘waveform’ geometry is produced from ultra wear resistant micro grain carbide for machining stainless steel, titanium and additional exotic materials commonly used in the medical industry. The 4091 Series is capable of machining at extremely high feeds and speeds to deliver outstanding metal removal rates and productivity.
Alongside the 4091 Cyber Series at MedTec will be the new Hanita 5777 SuperVariMill. This five flute square end high helix end mill has an unequal flute spacing to enhance productivity and tool life when machining stainless steels, titanium and alternate high temperature alloys commonly used in the medical implant industry. Available in diameter sizes from 4 to 25mm the SuperVariMill is also available with various radius sizes and necking options.
For the efficient machining of graphite and other similarly abrasive materials, ITC will be showcasing its 2071 Cyber Series of 2 flute solid carbide end mills. Manufactured from special wear resistant micrograin carbide with a 30° right hand helix, this series has a diamond coating that gives vastly improved tool life over equivalent carbide tools. Supplied with corner radius for extended tool life and strength, the 2071 series is available in 6, 8, 10 and 12mm diameters and is the optimum solution for abrasive medical materials and in particular the machining of carbon fibre artificial limbs.
Complimenting the 2071 Series will be the new two flute 2112 Series. This ball nosed solid carbide end mill is a centre cutting end mill with a reinforced shank and short flute that has been developed to deliver exceptional performance under the toughest of machining conditions. Manufactured from an AlTiN coated Ultra Wear Resistant Micro Grain Carbide, the 2112 Series is available coated in diameter sizes down to 0.3mm with various neck lengths giving it tool life far beyond that of competitor products. This exceptional tool life is permitted by the short flute and reinforced shank design. The rigid and robust tool design makes the new cutter ideal for use in the most demanding of applications and with multiple neck lengths for machining cavities, the series is suited to a wide variety of medical applications.
For chamfering, ITC will be showing its 4071 Cyber Series of chamfer tools that now include new angles that meet the wide spectrum of applications. The versatile series includes 60, 82 and 90 degree inclusive angles as standard to cater for the rapidly growing demands of the marketplace.
The four flute solid carbide chamfering tool has exceptional tool life and performance levels. Also available as a coated cutter to meet the needs of medical manufacturers with particularly difficult machining applications, the 4071 has four teeth in a staggered design to enhance performance and surface finish to deliver smooth cutting and long tool life on the hardest of materials. The exciting new range is available in 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12mm diameters with all three angles available for each diameter.
ITC is renowned for its ability to modify tooling to specific requirements with short lead times – something well suited the Medical industry. Complimenting the ITC products at the show will be the Air Turbine range of speed increasing spindles.
